Six members of Centennial’s fencing team showed off their fencing skills at a special demonstration for state legislators and staff in the Georgia State Capitol on Feb. 7.

All 21 area high schools in the Georgia High School Fencing League participated in the annual GHSFL Day at the Capitol.

“It was a great opportunity for GHSFL to share their love of fencing with both the politicians and the other visitors to the Capital,” said Mary Ann Walker, Centennial team parent.

The six representing Centennial were co-captains Drew Walker, Davis McDonald, Avery Shipp, and team members Kendall Atkinson, Kennedy Atkinson and Aiden Cheek. Students had photo ops with House Representative Matt Dollar and State Senator John Albers, a brief tour of the House Chamber or Senate Chamber, and then heard both houses read out a resolution recognizing GHSFL Day in Georgia.

Later in the day, 19 students gave onlookers a spirited demonstration of what fencing is all about in the Rotunda under the Gold Dome of the state capitol.
