The Fulton County Board of Education met on Thursday, May 2, to vote on the new superintendent for Fulton County Schools to replace Jeff Rose, who unexpectedly made a mid-contract resignation in late 2018. Currently serving as the superintendent for Williamson County Schools in Tennessee, Dr. Michael Looney was the sole finalist for the position; he will assume office on June 17, 2019.

Some potential issues in the county that will be up to Looney to address include widespread renovations to North Springs High School, the oldest school in the county, and potential impacts of soon-to-come toll lanes on Georgia 400 and I-285 highways on neighborhoods and schools in Fulton.
