The Rise of Skywalker Trailer Shows a Dark Future

The Star Wars series is a rare phenomenon in which one story continues across multiple generations. It started in 1977 with the original trilogy of A New Hope, 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back, and 1983’s Return of the Jedi. It was expanded upon with the prequel trilogy in 1999 with The Phantom Menace, 2002’s Attack of the Clones, and 2005’s Revenge of the Sith. Now finally, the sequel trilogy will be finished after 2015’s The Force Awakens, 2017’s The Last Jedi, and coming this December, The Rise of Skywalker. Disney just recently released a new trailer for this final chapter in the Skywalker Saga, but what was truly shown off?

The trailer’s first half shows everything that’s lead up to this movie. It shows some of the biggest moments of all the past movies that reflect the Skywalker Saga so far. However, the second half of the trailer makes it seem like The Rise of Skywalker  is going to be much darker than its predecessors. Different characters can be seen being affected in different ways by this trailer, with C3PO being seen with red eyes, which is heavily associated with the dark side in this series. Kylo Ren is seen as being much more aggressive in this trailer too, with his only scenes showing him attacking with his lightsaber. Another shot shows hundreds of Star Destroyers getting ready to attack the Resistance. The biggest shot of the trailer comes at the end, and it shows Rey with a red double-sided lightsaber which teases her turning to the dark side. It can only be seen if this will really happen once Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker releases this December.
