Centennial’s fencing team took home half of the medals awarded at the season’s first tournament, Saturday, Sept. 14.

On the women’s side, Kennedy Atkinson took silver and Kendall Atkinson tied for third, scoring a bronze medal. It was the first time for both second-year fencers to medal.

On the men’s side, Drew Walker narrowly lost his final bout to take the silver, while Apollo Parnas tied for third, scoring bronze for his team.

Saturday’s tournament at Alpharetta High School was one of three tournament sites on Saturday. The league’s size means that three tournaments are held concurrently on competition days.

Centennial is a 16-year member of the Georgia High School Fencing League which has 22 schools throughout north Georgia. Centennial hosts one of the next three tournaments on Saturday, Sept. 28.
