Centennial Knights, track and field season is here. If you are looking for a sport that is a fun and rewarding opportunity to make new friends, then come out to participate with the team.
Head coach Micheal Higgins said track takes commitment and work. “You have to be willing to put in the work because you’re not cheating me; the only person you would be cheating is yourself,” he said.
You don’t have to have any experience in running. The track coaches are very supportive with helping new runners find what event fits them. Many people find that as long as you are willing to put in the work that track is fun and rewarding.
Now if running is not your style, you can do a throwing event. These events consist of throwing a disc or a shot put. Coach Nixon will be there to show you how to throw and get you ready to perform in the meets.
This sport is also great for staying in shape and getting faster for other sports you might do in a different season.
Most track runners always emphasize how fun it is to be out there with all your friends at practice, and spending a lot of time together at the meets. “ I have made a lot of new friends while running track and I like meeting all my goals I have for my different events with them,” said Destiny Woods, a returning track runner.
