Vocab mania: Learn some new words!

I personally love big words or any new vocabulary that other people show me. Over the past year, I’ve been shown and have also found a lot of new words that I think are fun. You might be wondering what I mean by “fun”. Basically, I’ve come across many words that I find to sound really nice when said out loud, and I’ve accumulated all of them into one long list. 

  1. Derivative- Imitative of the work of another person, and usually disapproved of for that reason.
  2. Pungent- Having a sharply strong taste or smell. 
  3. Diabolical- Disgracefully bad or unpleasant. 
  4. Concoct- Create or devise. 
  5. Preposterous- Contrary to reason or common sense. 
  6. Doofenshrimitz- Character from Phineas and Ferb. 
  7. Discombobulated- Confused and disconcerted. 
  8. Atrocious- Horrifyingly wicked. 
  9. Bonkers (only if said in a British accent)- Mad;crazy 
  10. Ostentatious- Characterized by vulgar or pretentious display. 
  11. Arugula- The rocket plant, used in cooking. 
  12. Verisimilitude- The appearance of being true or real. 
  13. Rancid- Smelling or tasting unpleasant as a result of being old and stale. 
  14. Elucidate- Make something clear; explain.
  15. Quid Pro Quo- A favor or advantage granted or expected in return for something. 
  16. Candor (only when said super exaggerated)- The quality of being open and honest in expression. 
  17. Eloquent- Fluent or persuasive in speaking or writing. 
  18. Maximus (also only when said super exaggerated)- Largest. 
  19. Floozy- A girl or a woman who has many casual sexual encounters or relationships. 
  20. Numbness- The state of being numb.
