Ways To Stay Entertained While Quarantined

Explore new things, set a schedule, stay connected

Do not get discouraged while quarantined at home. This time can be used to catch up on things you have been meaning to get done and even explore new, fun activities.  This is a good time to get started on your “spring cleaning.” Maybe it is time to rearrange things in your room and switch things up. Any books, movies, or shows you have been meaning to finish or start? Now is the time to finish all of your “saved for laters.”

This time may also be useful for getting exercise and choosing better, healthier lifestyle choices. For example, go outside and take a walk. Riverside Road is a great road with a path to walk, run or bicycle on. The weather is also perfect for outdoor yoga, or maybe a picnic with your family.

Since most restaurants are closed or take-out only, this is a good time to advance your culinary skills. Grab a cookbook, look up recipes online, and try to make new foods. This is a healthier and more fun alternative to eating out, while saving money. There are plenty of healthy options such as making your own sauces, pastas, or even challenge yourself by making international dishes such as lo mien and curry.

Take this time to explore new hobbies or things you did as a kid you find you usually do not have time for anymore. Painting things inside or outside is a fun, time consuming activity that is good for your mind and also relaxing. Go outside, find a pretty tree or plant and draw it. This is something you can do with your family or by yourself.

Take this time to self-reflect and stay active. Try to stay away from staying in bed all day and falling behind in school work. Set a schedule to sleep and wake up every day and plan out your day ahead of time so you stay on track. Lastly, try not to get discouraged or bored, instead appreciate this time you have to yourself and make good use of it.
