Are you Bored in Quarantine?

Maggie Nolen, Staff Writer

Have you spent all the hours you can stand scrolling through TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat? Are you done with your schoolwork and looking for something fun to do? Here are some fun, easy activities to do at home:

  1. Bake
  • As simple as this sounds, trying a new recipe or baking something sweet is the perfect thing to lift your spirits. Recently, I have been making cake pops, and it has been a really fun way to explore a new hobby and enjoy a nice dessert. For me, it is therapeutic to bake and could offer some emotional healing during this time. If you want to try making cake pops, click here.
  1.  Start a new book (you can find a lot of free pdfs online!)
  • Brooklyn Oxley said, “I’ve always loved reading, but during this time of isolation I have found myself reading more and more as an escape. Reading takes me to new places and gives me an activity that uses my brain. I would recommend reading to anyone who is bored and stuck at home.”
  • Another fun thing to try and do is read the book version of your favorite movie. If you’re a huge Harry Potter fan, try to read a few of the books! One of my favorites is Perks of Being a Wallflower.
  • Go on online college visits!
  • With all the recent school and college closures, a lot of colleges are setting up online tours and information sessions. Local colleges such as the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech are offering online tours. This is also a great opportunity to tour colleges you wouldn’t have been able to travel to, such as the University of Chicago.
  • Carley Chinn said, “I’ve been using my quarantine to finalize my schedule for senior year and explore possible colleges I want to apply to in the fall. I feel very productive and more prepared for my future now.”
  1.  Research the 2020 election
  • If you are able to vote in 2020, take this time to get to know your political views and the change you wish to see in the country. There are many helpful tests and websites online. If you’re not sure about your political affiliation take this quiz. Research your candidates and possible vice president options for the nominees so you will be well educated to vote.
  1.  Take care of yourself
  • Now more than ever we have a lot of time on our hands. Use this time for some self-care (without leaving your house!) You can use your old coffee grinds and some coconut oil to make your very own coffee face mask/face scrub. Take a long bath or order some bath bombs (lush has free shipping for all orders of $40 right now!) Make sure you and your friends are okay and take the time to center yourself mentally.
